Linux System Administrator


We are looking for a Linux System Administrator to join our IT support team. Our IT support team are responsible for providing support to all staff and to ensure maximum uptime of services. The IT support team are vital to the operations of the business and will liaise with all departments of the business up to director level.


Since 1991 Pico Technology have been at the forefront of PC Test and Automotive Diagnostic equipment. Our products are used world-wide and more than 20 of the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers use our software, PicoScope to quickly diagnose problems and fix it right first time.


Away from the desk we also like to provide our sysadmins the best amenities possible to work in a relaxed environment. The main responsibilities of the Linux System Administrator role will include:


Administration of the core business systems

  • Troubleshooting and identifying potential problems
  • Documenting and configuration of the system
  • Responsible for computer/data security
  • Backup and restoration of servers
  • Evaluate new technologies to improve internal systems


These are just a few of the responsibilities of the role of Linux System Administrator, we feel that to handle these responsibilities we would be looking for a Linux System Administrator with skills in the following:


  • Linux administration (Ubuntu, ideally also CentOS and Debian)
  • Web server administration and configuration (Apache, PHP).
  • MySQL database administration experience.
  • Networking (Routers, switches, firewalls).
  • Windows infrastructure experience will also be of benefit.
  • General desktop support
  • Be able to self manage as well as be a team player
  • Excellent communication skills
